Instructor in Political Science (part-time)

Position Summary
The Instructor in Political Science teaches Political Science courses as assigned, conducts lectures, leads classroom discussions and classroom activities, and performs other duties as directed. Instructors construct essay assignments and examinations and other performance-based activities that provide evidence of learning by students in the course. Instructors work collaboratively with department faculty to ensure that standard curriculum outcomes are met. Instructors adhere to all UIW policies and procedures, including timely record-keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.


This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions
Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
-Ability to deliver existing lower and upper-division courses in your area of specialty and develop new courses reflecting their specific research interests;
-Familiarity with the Catholic Intellectual Tradition;
-Demonstrated understanding of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs);
-Demonstrated competency in instruction and mentoring of students from a variety of backgrounds, including first-generation, low income, and racial and ethnic minorities;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA

Required Education
Masters degree in political science or related field

Required Work Experience
Demonstrated proven effectiveness in political science courses at the college level with documentation of student evaluations

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
