POSITION TITLE: Full-time, Tenure-track Assistant Professor

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Department of Political Science is dedicated to promoting political understanding and public engagement through innovative teaching, research, and community service in all areas of politics and Political Science. The department currently consists of nearly 40 faculty, with about equal numbers of tenure-line and adjunct faculty. With approximately 700 Political Science majors, the department is deeply committed to high quality undergraduate and graduate education, offering multiple degree programs and internship opportunities in the state capital. The department is also committed to supporting the work-life balance of its faculty. Undergraduate students can major in Political Science, International Relations, and Political Science/Journalism. Graduate students can pursue a master's degree in Political Science. Faculty participate in civic engagement initiatives, social justice centers, and other campus activities.

POSITION DETAILS:


This is a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning with the Fall 2022 semester. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and professional experience.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Advising and mentoring students
  • Engaging in scholarly and professional activities
  • Providing service to the department, college, and campus
  • Providing service to the community

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in Political Science, Sociology, or related field, or J.D.
  • ABD applicants will be considered. If ABD, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by January 2023.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student body and a diverse community.
  • Strong commitment to college teaching.
  • Ability to teach our required constitutional law courses (Constitutional Law, Constitutional Rights and Liberties).
  • Ability to teach existing lower and upper division courses and potentially develop new courses related to Law and Society.
  • Potential for scholarly achievement; open to subfield and methodological approach.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of a diverse student body.
  • Experience in working with a diverse community.
  • Interest in participating in civic engagement initiatives, social justice centers, and other campus activities at Sacramento State.
  • Ability to conduct research on civil liberties, civil rights, social justice, or related issues in law and society.
  • Interest in building connections with community organizations, and serving as a liaison that fortifies Sacramento State as an anchor in the state capital and local community.
